Oil firms fined €936m for cartel in Italy

Italy’s Antitrust Authority has fined six oil firms more than €936 million for operating a fuel cartel. The companies are Eni, Esso, Ip, Iplom, Q8, Saras and Tamoil. Investigators said they coordinated fuel price rises through information exchanges. The cartel lasted from January 2020 until June 2023.

Ciro Grillo, 24, son of Beppe Grillo, co-founder of the Five-Star Movement (M5S), has been convicted along with three friends in the long-running Porto Cervo gang rape case. The Tempio Pausania Court found them guilty of the gang rape of two young women in mid-July 2019 and handed down prison sentences on Monday.
