The Barilla Group is restructuring its southern Italy operations, with two other plants set to pass to industrial partners under multi-year supply deals.
The Barilla Group announced on Friday it will invest €100 million to build an integrated pasta hub in Foggia, Puglia, featuring a next-generation mill. The project, planned for construction between 2028 and 2030, is intended to establish the site as one of the group’s strategic hubs, with improvements to sustainability, logistics and production efficiency for both domestic and export markets.
Two plants set to change hands
As part of the restructuring, Barilla said proposals from Pastificio Liguori S.p.A. to acquire the Marcianise (Caserta) plant, and from Molino Casillo S.p.A. to acquire the mills at Altamura (Bari) and Castelplanio (Ancona), are in advanced negotiations. Barilla said preserving jobs for all affected staff was a fundamental condition of both deals, and that production for the group would continue at the sites under multi-year supply agreements with the new owners.
Liguori and Casillo have both indicated their commitment to maintaining production continuity, local employment and expertise at the sites, with a view to long-term development.
Barilla opened talks with trade unions on Friday over the details of the wider industrial plan.
