Regeni trial hears about events leading to his death

Egyptian police detained Italian student Giulio Regeni in Cairo because they thought he was a British spy. They took him to a security facility where he was tortured and murdered, an Italian prosecutor told a Rome court on Monday.

Italy’s Constitutional Court today ended a stalemate on the trial in absentia in Italy of four Egyptian intelligence officers on suspicion of torturing to death Italian student Giulio Regeni in Cairo in early 2016.
