Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni warned that peace in Ukraine will not come through simple solutions as leaders met in Washington.
Meloni joined US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and senior European leaders for the summit.
“There are no easy solutions. We must explore all possible options to ensure peace and security for our nations,” she said.
She called the talks “important” after three and a half years of war following Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.
“After years in which Russia refused dialogue and demanded Kyiv’s capitulation, some glimmers of hope for talks are appearing,” she added.
Zelensky brought top European leaders to the US capital for the crunch meeting with Trump.
Those present included European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, and Meloni.
