Pro-Russian hackers launch cyberattacks on italian institutions

Cyberattacks on Italian Institutions for Sixth Consecutive Day

Business News

For the sixth morning in a row, pro-Russian hacker group Noname057(16) launched cyberattacks on Italian institutions, affecting around 20 websites on Saturday.

The group’s latest wave of attacks targeted ministries, law enforcement agencies – including the tax police – banks such as Banca Intesa, and transport companies. Affected sites included Milan’s Linate and Malpensa airports, as well as the ports of Taranto and Trieste.

Noname057(16) has consistently focused its cyberattacks on Italian institutions, financial organisations, arms industries, and public transport networks. As in previous attacks, the hackers used distributed denial of service (DDoS) methods, flooding targeted sites with access requests to render them unreachable.

Italy’s National Cybersecurity Agency intervened on Saturday to alert affected organisations and mitigate the impact. On Friday, the agency also published guidelines to help prevent such attacks.

The group linked its recent actions to comments made by President Sergio Mattarella, who compared Russia’s invasion of Ukraine to the Third Reich. In response, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova called the comparison “blasphemous” and warned of “consequences.” Mattarella has not directly responded to the remarks.
