Uber launches luxury travel on Amalfi Coast

News Travel & Tourism

Uber has unveiled new luxury travel options for Italy’s Amalfi Coast ahead of what is expected to be a record-breaking summer. With over five million visitors forecast to descend on the region, the transport giant will offer helicopter rides, boat cruises, and pre-booked ground transport.

Starting 26 July, Uber Copter will allow travellers to book private helicopter transfers from Sorrento to Capri through the Uber app. Each trip seats up to six people and costs €250 per person. Transfers from anywhere along the coast to the helipad are included.

Flights use dual-engine helicopters and two pilots. The experience is designed as a round-trip day escape to the island, with availability every weekend through 24 August. Trips must be booked at least 48 hours in advance.

For those staying closer to sea level, Uber Boat offers four-hour private charters for up to 12 guests on a Gozzo 35, a classic Italian vessel. Departing from Sorrento Marina, the trip includes a skipper, snacks and drinks, and time to explore the Amalfi coastline by sea.

Both Uber Copter and Uber Boat will be available to reserve from anywhere in Italy using the Uber app. However, seats are limited and weather-dependent.

New ground transport option to beat airport queues

Uber Reserve, the company’s pre-scheduled ride feature, will also launch this summer along the Amalfi Coast. With international flights now arriving at Salerno Airport, the region is bracing for one of its busiest seasons. The company hopes that advance booking will ease pressure on local roads and taxis.

Meeting growing demand from foreign travellers

More than 400,000 international users booked Uber rides in Italy last summer. In the past 12 months, 60,000 users opened the app on the Amalfi Coast alone.

“Travellers want magical, stress-free ways to move,” said Anabel Diaz, Vice President for EMEA Mobility at Uber. “This summer, we’re adding unforgettable experiences by land, sea or air.”

Data from 2024 shows demand for Uber services jumped by 25% in destinations like Rome, Lake Como and the Amalfi Coast.

A growing luxury market on the coast

The Amalfi Coast, a UNESCO-listed stretch of dramatic cliffs and pastel towns, has long attracted celebrities and luxury travellers. Towns like Positano, Ravello and Amalfi are often congested in peak season, making fast and flexible transport highly desirable.
