Italian prosecutors have identified the body of a young woman found dead in Rome’s Villa Pamphili park as Anastasia Trofimova, a 28-year-old Russian national born in Omsk.
Her body was discovered on 7 June, around 200 metres from the corpse of her infant daughter. Authorities said the child had been named Andromeda Ford and was born in Malta on 14 June, 2024.
An American man, Francis Kaufmann, has been arrested in Greece in connection with the deaths. Kaufmann had been travelling with a false passport under the name Rexal Ford.
Rome investigators said they were able to confirm the woman’s identity using information obtained during a visit to Malta. The couple had been on the island before arriving in Italy. The FBI and Maltese authorities assisted with the investigation.
According to the Rome prosecutor’s office, Trofimova entered Malta in September 2023. A registration process had been initiated at the US Embassy in Malta to list the child under the name Andromeda Ford.
Authorities said that fingerprint comparisons between Trofimova and documents used in Malta would offer definitive confirmation of her identity.
The Italian TV programme Chi l’ha Visto also contributed to the case by locating a woman who identified herself as Trofimova’s mother. She confirmed that her daughter had been studying English in Malta and had met Kaufmann there. Unfortunately, the 28-year-old woman and her child were dumped in Villa Pamphili Park.
