Pope Francis slept well overnight and is now resting, the Vatican Press Office said early Thursday morning. The Pope still calls church in Gaza despite illness.
A medical bulletin released late Wednesday confirmed the pontiff suffered no further respiratory crises as he battles pneumonia in a Rome hospital. However, his prognosis remains guarded.
“Today’s blood and haematocytometric tests confirmed yesterday’s improvement,” stated the Vatican’s evening medical update. The pope, hospitalised at Agostino Gemelli Hospital, “continues high-flow oxygen therapy and has not experienced asthmatic respiratory crises today.” Respiratory physiotherapy is ongoing.
“Despite a slight improvement, the prognosis remains reserved,” the bulletin added.
The Vatican press Office issued another update on Thuirsday morning stating Pope Francis slept well overnight.
Pope Francis continues to call the parish church in Gaza when possible, despite his illness, said Father Gabriel Romanelli of the Holy Family Church. In a video sent to ANSA on Wednesday, he confirmed the pope has called nearly every afternoon since the war began.
“We are happy and moved to hear his voice, which gives us comfort,” said Father Romanelli. “It is a blessed call and a great joy, even in these difficult times. Despite his fragile health, the Holy Father continues to think and pray for everyone and for peace in Gaza. He also thanks us for our constant prayers.”
