The Global Sumud Flotilla, en-route to Gaza, said its boats were attacked overnight in international waters.
The mission reported being hit by sound bombs, flares, and suspected chemicals while sailing southwest of Crete. Radios were jammed and distress calls blocked. The mast of one vessel was destroyed and several others damaged.
“Boats from Italy, England and Poland were hit,” said Italian spokesperson Maria Elena Delia. “It was like an attack on the three countries. We hope that the political world will intervene. These attacks put lives at risk.”
The group said at least 15 drones were used, spraying irritant substances, releasing sound bombs, and colliding with vessels. Four or five boats, including the Italian one, are now unable to sail.

Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, in New York for the UN General Assembly, warned Israel not to endanger flotilla participants, including Italian MPs and MEPs. The foreign ministry said Italy had already told Israeli authorities any operation must comply with international law and be carried out with “absolute caution.” Tajani has instructed the Italian Embassy in Tel Aviv to seek further information and demand guarantees of safety.
In Rome, tensions spilled into parliament. A session of the Lower House was suspended after opposition MPs occupied government benches, calling for immediate answers. Deputy Speaker Giorgio Mulè later confirmed that Defence Minister Guido Crosetto will address the House on Thursday after returning from Latvia.
