A 33-year-old Dutch woman has died following a fatal accident with a boat on Lake Como, one of Italy’s most popular tourist destinations. The incident took place on Saturday afternoon near Villa Geno, a scenic area on the eastern edge of the city of Como.

According to Italian news agency ANSA, two boats collided while out on the lake. The woman, part of a group of Dutch tourists who had rented one of the vessels, was thrown into the water by the impact. Reports indicate she was struck by the propeller of one of the boats and suffered serious leg injuries.

Emergency services responded quickly, and the woman was airlifted to Sant’Anna Hospital in Como in cardiac arrest. Despite medical efforts, she died shortly after arriving.

A 44-year-old man on the second boat was also injured and taken to hospital by helicopter. He is in a stable condition and not considered to be in life-threatening danger.

Authorities have seized both boats and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Later the same day, a separate emergency unfolded in the eastern branch of the lake near Abbadia Lariana, in Lecco province. A swimmer was reported missing after submerging and failing to resurface. Rescue efforts involving divers, the coastguard, firefighters, and a helicopter continued into the evening.

Lake Como, located around 50 kilometres north of Milan, attracts thousands of visitors each year, particularly from Germany and the Netherlands.
